The Preamble to the Constitution
I wanted to name the series We The People, but I decided against it after discovering that Kid Rock wrote a song with that title. Actually, it was after I listened to the song and watched the music video that I decided against it. I will not link to the song or the video and discourage you from wasting your time listening to it. While the words of the Preamble transcend Kid Rock seeking to speak on behalf of all people, I didn’t want people googling this, having to endure that.
As we navigate the coming presidential election, many people will seek to define what it means to be American. With both the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention in the review mirror, we are steamrolling towards November. Politicians and pundits will try to convince us of what’s best for us and what we should want from our elected leaders. What this series aims to do is hear from everyday people.
We will take time to discuss diverse topics and issues. I will invite guest contributors to write pieces about their stories or work.
What’s the goal? To create space for everyday Americans to tell their stories and dive deeper into what it means to be American.
